A detailed measured building survey was undertaken for a substantial 16th-century country house in Buckinghamshire. The survey was commissioned to support architectural design work and future refurbishment proposals.
The property comprised a large historic residence together with a number of ancillary structures including stables, barns and associated outbuildings. Accurate floor plans, elevations and sectional drawings were required to capture the existing building geometry, structural layout and historic fabric across the site.
The client required specific measurements at defined levels throughout the structure and requested that the survey drawings be produced within one week of completing the site work. Given the requirement for traditional 2D drawings and a rapid turnaround, the survey was undertaken using a total station rather than laser scanning.
Features were measured selectively and interpreted in the field, allowing the data to move directly into CAD drafting without the additional processing stages associated with point cloud surveys.
The resulting drawings provided clear and reliable existing building information for the design team to progress the project.
